We provide Lloyd’s market access to worldwide accident & health, marine, energy, terrorism and European property risks for commercial clients worldwide.

Since 1999, Chaucer Copenhagen A/S has provided dedicated capacity and local representation to the European and Nordic region, with the A-rated security of Chaucer Syndicate 1084 at Lloyd’s.

We work closely with international and local brokers to offer regional clients a lead capacity for a broad range of Specialty risks, and administer all business, including premiums and claims, from our office in Copenhagen.

Head of Chaucer Copenhagen

Dr Gero is Head of Chaucer Copenhagen with responsibility for leading the development of Chaucer’s European and Scandinavian underwriting portfolio.

Gero is a market leading authority on underwriting catastrophe risk, with over 25 years of hazard, risk management and catastrophe underwriting and modelling experience, having begun his career in Germany as a scientist, following a PhD in geoscience. His experience also includes senior leadership roles in underwriting property catastrophe and modelling in Germany, Bermuda and the UK.


Our Products

Accident & Health

We write a worldwide reinsurance account for a range of financial institutions, including life insurance companies, property and casualty insurance companies, pension funds and captives, where we protect the accident component of:

  • Personal accident
  • Life insurance
  • Disability insurance
  • Workers compensation
  • Medical expense insurance 

We write business on a catastrophe basis (with a minimum of 2 life warranty) for accident, health and life, and on a per person basis for accident and health. We also offer retrocessional capacity including both “soft retro” and London market excess.

Our maximum catastrophe capacity per programme is €15m and for per person is €3m. Our limit for retro is €5m per programme.

Energy

We provide insurance and facultative reinsurance cover for a wide selection of energy industry entities. Our clients range from multinational oil companies to the energy interests of private individuals. We focus on delivering the high standards of service required to maintain successful partnerships with energy companies and brokers alike. Our account historically focused on traditional exploration and production operating risks, but has now broadened to include midstream, downstream and renewable energy offerings. Our activities in renewable energy include insurance and facultative reinsurance of wind turbines, solar panels, geothermal power, biomass and waver energy.

Our specialist underwriters offer significant capacity, leadership and an entrepreneurial approach to brokers and clients.

Marine Hull and War

We provide cover for a wide range of marine clients, with 95% of our account consisting of blue water risks. Our account includes merchant marine vessels – cruise ships, ferries, oil tankers, gas carriers, bulk carriers, container vessels, tugs and supply vessels – as well as more specialist craft, such as private yachts and fishing vessels.

The scope of coverage includes:

  • Hull and machinery for all risks or named perils
  • Increased value, loss of hire and loss of earnings Specialist craft
  • Mortgagees interest
  • Builders risks
  • Marine war and tows

Our capacity is US$20m for any one vessel, written as direct business or as reinsurance.

Political Violence

We offer lead capacity in political violence, which includes sabotage and terrorism, terrorism liability, SRCC and malicious damage and event cancellation due to terrorism.

Property

We write a European property account, including Israel, Russia, the CIS and Turkey, both through brokers and on a direct basis. Our London office writes UK and French business.

We write the following types of reinsurance:

  • Catastrophe excess of loss
  • Quota share
  • Surplus
  • Stop loss
  • Reinstatement premium protection

Our capacity is €10m per catastrophe programme.
