If you are a bright graduate with a 2.2 or higher (or an undergraduate with predicted grades of 2.2 or higher) and you are full of ideas and energy, Chaucer could be a great place to launch your career.
Chaucer is a leader in insurance and reinsurance markets worldwide, working through Lloyd’s of London to provide businesses and individuals with protection against risk. From mathematics, finance and business, to languages and humanities, we welcome bright people from a broad range of disciplines.
Chaucer is a thriving and dynamic firm, protecting businesses around the world from a wide range of risks. That could be hurricane damage to property in Florida, the theft of a bullion truck in Libya or the disruption and loss of revenue following the closure of an airport in the US after a cyber-attack. We have inclusive team-orientated culture and as an enthusiastic, new member of staff, you will be made to feel very welcome and will be encouraged to take real responsibility as you learn.
As a graduate, we will create a development plan for you. This will include rotations around the business so that you get a deep understanding of what each area does and meet more of our teams. We will also do our best to support your efforts towards a professional qualification. If you show us you are a high flyer, you will join our Advance Programme with greater opportunities for skills building, networking and mentoring with wider industry experts. While most of our graduates begin in London, we have teams in Copenhagen, Miami, Dubai and Singapore offering the potential to work abroad.
We are proud to have been voted the ‘Top Company for Graduates to work for’ in the Accountancy and Insurance category, for the past four years by The Job Crowd. We were also honoured to have won the ‘Best Support’ Award in the smaller employer category for 2016/2017.
Underwriting Graduate Programme 2021 (two vacancies)
Over 24 months, we provide you with the opportunity to begin your career as an underwriter – an insurance professional who understands risks, how to manage them, and is responsible for deciding what their insurance company will insure.
Our programme develops your expertise in every underwriting area, from initial introduction of the risk by the broker, through assessment of the coverage required, to policy pricing and account management. In doing so, you will learn how we provide insurance for a wide range of risks, from earthquakes to workplace injuries. We also provide you with full support for your professional insurance qualification with the Chartered Institute of Insurance; the leading UK industry body for insurance professionals.
Risk Graduate Programme 2021 (one vacancy)
Over 24 months, we will provide you with the opportunity to gain practical knowledge and experience in our Risk team, which helps the business to assess the risks and associated costs of being an insurance company in the London market.
Through specialist placements within our Enterprise Risk Management, Exposure Management, Capital Modelling and Underwriting Risk Management teams, our programme will develop your expertise in every area of our Risk Function. You will learn how we identify and analyse risks using risk assessment techniques as well as how we calculate Regulatory capital, monitor performance, exposure and appetites. You will gain a good understanding of all areas of the company as well as all classes of business that are written.
