Chaucer appointed John as Chief Executive Officer in January 2017, having previously served as Chaucer's Chief Underwriting Officer.
John's main responsibilities include the general oversight, management, and strategic development of the business.
John was previously Active Underwriter for Syndicate 1084. Prior to that, he was Head of the Specialist Lines Division of Chaucer. John has experience in both the company and Lloyd’s markets.
Chaucer appointed Rob Callan as Chief Financial Officer of Chaucer Syndicates on 1 December 2015 with responsibility for the development and implementation of Chaucer’s financial strategy.
Rob has over 25 years of finance experience and an exceptional track record within the insurance industry. He joined us from Catlin Group Limited (now part of XL Group) where he spent seven years in a number of senior finance roles, the most recent of which was UK Chief Financial Officer.
Prior to this, Rob was Head of UK Finance at Aon Limited.
Chaucer appointed Nicola as Chief Underwriting Officer in November 2019. Nicola’s main responsibilities are the development and execution of Chaucer’s underwriting strategy, with a focus on portfolio growth.
Nicola has over 30 years of (re)insurance experience, including senior underwriting leadership roles at Swiss Re and GE Insurance Solutions. She joined Chaucer from Swiss Re Europe where she previously served as Managing Director with responsibility for risk management globally for P&C Reinsurance.
Chaucer appointed James as Chief Risk Officer in April 2020, having previously served as Chaucer's Head of Risk and Capital.
James is responsible for the performance of Chaucer’s enterprise wide risk management framework and its constituent parts. He is responsible for the overall performance, direction and management of enterprise risk management, underwriting risk management, exposure management as well as responsibility for legal, compliance and corporate governance functions.
James joined Chaucer in 2006 as a graduate working on capital model development and usage roles with the business. James holds a Masters in Mathematics and is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries (FIA).
Chaucer appointed David Bendle as Chief Operating Officer on 1 January 2016. He is responsible for leading development and implementation of Chaucer’s operations and service strategy, with a focus on building first class operations and processes.
David has a wealth of industry experience and operational excellence, and has made a significant contribution to the development of Chaucer’s strong operations capabilities over the last decade. David joined Chaucer as Syndicate Manager in October 2002. Previously, he was a Syndicate Manager for eight years, following five years as a broker.
Chaucer appointed Duncan as Chief Strategy Officer in June 2020, having previously served as Head of Strategy and Corporate development.
Duncan is responsible for shaping the overall strategy and long-term direction of the Group, including Corporate Development and overseeing the development of Chaucer's Innovation and Next Generation Underwriting capabilities. He joined Chaucer in 2008, initially as Head of Underwriting Management, before building their Underwriting Performance function.
He was previously an Underwriter in both the Lloyd’s and company markets for 12 years, before becoming a partner in an advisory and analytics business as well as being involed in start-up businesses outside the insurance market. Duncan holds an MBA and is ACII qualified.
Paul Jardine, Independent Non-Executive Director and Chairman, joined the Board of Chaucer in 2020. He is also the Chairman of the Remuneration & Nominations Committee and a member of the Risk & Capital and the Audit Committees.
Paul is a renowned insurance business leader, with unparalleled London Market and Lloyd’s senior level experience. He has held a number of executive roles at AXA XL, after serving as Director & Chief Actuary at Equitas. Prior to this, he was a partner at Coopers & Lybrand.
Dr Zuo Huiqiang, Non-Executive Director, joined the Board of Chaucer in March 2019. He is Deputy General Manager of China Re P&C, with overall responsibility for China Re’s international businesses and further development worldwide. He also has overall management responsibility for the Innovative Business initiative, which is driving business model, product and customer service breakthroughs at China Re.
Dr Zuo joined China Re Group in 1999, and has since held a number of senior management roles. He is currently Chief International Business Officer of China Re Group and Chairman of the Board of China Re Catastrophe Risk Management Company Limited.
Dr Zuo is an expert in seismic hazard analysis and earthquake loss evaluation and has a PhD in earthquake engineering.
Jerome Faure is an Independent Non-Executive Director who joined the Board of Chaucer in 2017.
He is a highly regarded global business leader with a successful track record in insurance and reinsurance.
Jerome has held a number of high profile industry positions, he began his career at SCOR in Paris and over a 16-year period went on to lead their offices in Tokyo, London and New York. Subsequently Jerome has served as Chief Underwriting Officer of Tokio Millennium Re, Bermuda, as Partner of ILS Capital Management, Bermuda, and most recently, Chief Executive Officer of Global Reinsurance at Endurance Specialty, Bermuda.
Lesley, Independent Non-Executive Director joined the Chaucer Board in January 2020. She has a career spanning over 20 years in financial services and is a trusted business adviser with extensive senior level board experience and in-depth knowledge of the UK corporate finance arena.
Lesley is currently a Non-Executive Director of Investec Bank plc and Braemar Shipping Services plc. She was formerly a Non-Executive Director of Game Digital plc and Panmure Gordon & Co plc. She was also a non-executive Council Member and Chair of the Audit Committee of the Competition Commission.
