Our Brexit Approach

We offer full support for existing and new clients across Europe following Britain's scheduled departure from the European Union on 31 January 2020.

Our European clients can access the benefits of Chaucer expertise, products and security through Chaucer Dublin, our insurance company in Ireland, or Lloyd’s Brussels.

Chaucer Dublin

We write business through our Ireland-domiciled insurance company, Chaucer Insurance Company DAC, which trades as Chaucer Dublin.

The international specialty products offered from Chaucer Dublin mirror those of Chaucer Syndicate 1084 in London, enabling us to provide either syndicate or company paper, depending on client preferences. Chaucer Dublin has a UK branch to provide access to specialty underwriting expertise in London.

Chaucer Dublin benefits from the full support of China Re, our new parent company, and has an A- financial strength rating from Standard & Poor’s and A from AM Best.

Lloyd’s Brussels

From 1 January 2019, Chaucer Syndicate 1084 began underwriting business through Lloyd's Insurance Company S.A., based in Brussels.  Lloyd’s Brussels has licenses in all 30 European Economic Area states, and has the same strong financial ratings as Lloyd's; A from A.M. Best, A+ from Standard & Poor's and AA- from Fitch. Risks are reinsured into Chaucer Syndicate 1084, meaning that clients continue to benefit from the Lloyd's chain of security.
